I still haven't decided if blogspot is for me....but for now click the link!
Family Home Evening tonight was a life changing event for all of us, especially Jacob. He had his first rice cereal, and he LOVED it! He couldn't get enough, and Daddy couldn't go fast enough. This is a big night for us all....Jacob will always eat solid food now, for the rest of his life, and John and I will have to start changing solid food diapers. What a fun FHE!
Jacob is 16 weeks old today. I can't believe I have been a mother for such a short time, but it seems as if anything else would be insignificant at this time in my life. 16 weeks, and Jacob is such an integral part of our family; his schedule is as important, if not more, than each of ours. His appetite, mood, even bowel habits are causes to be happy or sad. John and I still haven't forgotten our past lives without Jacob, but we would never go back; we only want to look forward to a life more full with our son. Here is a quick list of the fun things Jacob does now.
Jacob's Menagerie of Human Tricks to date:
- Smile
- Laughs
- Squeals (very loudly)
- Sucks his fingers, fist, and finally his thumb
- Spits (a new trick this week)
- Reaches for things
- Arches his back
- Loves to sit up (but not on his own yet)
- Puts himself to sleep
- Locks his knees to pretend he is standing
- Loves his diaper to be changed and clothes taken off
- Uses a baby bath now...too big for the sink
Wilbur is our new DELL computer. He arrived today, Jan 8th, and we are now reconnected to the real world. Interesting how the "real" world has become dependent on the the cyber world.
Now I can regularily post! YAY! Jacob is getting so big, and every day there is some sort of change. Today for instance he learned to spit. He thinks it is so cool to spit. He also has decided that going to bed before midnight is for LOSERS. So, we have been staying up late. Don't get me wrong, we try bed time at a decent hour (for so long his last feeding has been 10pm) but Jacob just wont sleep. He'll either play for hours, or scream.
But I can't complain too much. Jacob is really a great baby. He is sleeping through the night 8-9 hour stretches at night, and since we taught him that he could put himself to sleep (after several episodes of screaming himself to sleep), his naps have been awesome, 1-3 hours long. He still eats every three hours when his naps don't get in the way during the day. He doesn't mind his car seat as much anymore. He reaches for things, and is almost about to roll over. Jacob is TEETHING. Although nothing has broken through, he is getting a lot of tylenol for his sore gums. His trigger thumbs are getting better, and finally he has discovered his left thumb, and started sucking and biting it. We may have a thumb sucker yet.
John and I are doing really well. We love our new home, and John works like crazy at the office. But he loves his work, his patients, his staff; but he wishes he could get rid of the bills :) Don't we all. John just came back from his trip to Utah, where he, Chicken Wing, and Knippers skiied Snow Bird and Alta. The last day, Sat Jan 5th, it snowed so much all morning, that they had the best day of skiing ever. I'll have some pictures up soon from that trip.
Besides taking care of my little munchkin, I still try to keep up on house work, which I never can quite do. I just made 7 curtains for my family room and kitchen, and they turned out great.
It is finally 11:50 pm and Jacob is getting tired.... so off to bed we go,
YAY FOR WILBUR!!
John LOVES to ski. He loves to ski the most, with his friends. The boys, for their annual trip to the mountain, spent 3 days on the slopes of Snow Bird and Alta in Utah. Let me first inform my readers that Knippers' wife (8 months pregnant) and her children had the flu in Seattle....but she knows how much this trip means to him, so she happily sent him on his way. Chicken Wing will be away from his family for 6 weeks, starting the day after the ski trip, while he interns for a judge in D.C. But Collette is a wonderful wife who happily sent him on his way, while she wrangled her 2 children alone. Me, well I don't have as good of a story, but I did happily send my husband on his way to ski heaven with the boys while I stayed home 4 nights with Jacob all alone. So, it is a good thing that this turned out to the best ski trip they've ever had....all because of the last day of snow.
All reports were that once they hit the slopes that morning, they experienced the perfect day of skiing. Finally they had to call it a day and leave the mountain for another year, but only after they had been "Regulated by Regulator Johnson" (don't ask).
Ah.....what would we do with out good friends! Till next year boys.....be nice to your wives!
Wow, this kid is one month old. He likes his baths in the sink, he looks like a king sitting in there. His voice is strong and loud, he loves to hold his head up, and is getting quite good at it. He loves to be held....and doesn't like to be alone too much. He eats like a champion, every three hours like clock work. And although he hates getting his clothing changed, he goes through at least 3 outfits a day.
Having this kid around has made John and I so happy. Domestic bliss is what we call our lives.
Jacob was blessed today by John. We held the blessing here at home, with Bishop B. Williams presiding. He said Jacob was the youngest baby he had ever helped bless. We blessed the baby early so his Redelfs Grandparents from Alaska could be there. John's sister's Natalie and Amy and their families drove from Utah to attend. John also had his 3 close childhood friends, Jared Christensen, Jared Fuhriman, and Roy Nelson participate. What a wonderful day, and a wonderful blessing. My mother made a yummy lunch, and all the cousins had a blast, and Baby Jake slept through the whole thing!

Our beautiful son arrived after 17.5 hours of labor, 3.5 hours of pushing, & 4 epidural attempts (one of which worked!).
He was worth every second, and he is everything we have been dreaming of all these years. He is perfectly healthy and a great eater. John took the on the roll of proud daddy immediately and it suites him well. I'll be home from the hospital on the 15th, so keep checking for more news on the Cutest Baby Boy in the World!
